One Year Later: Sand Springs Police Department Releases Results of Electronic Ticketing Program
digiTICKET helps Sand Springs Police Department reduce car crashes
Tulsa, OK – The Sand Springs Police Department and Tulsa-based Company Saltus Technologies have released results of a year-long study of its electronic ticketing partnership utilizing digiTICKET. Sand Springs Police officers have been using digiTICKET handheld devices since May 15, 2009 to write traffic citations.
After utilizing the technology for a year, the Sand Springs Police Department is pleased to announce that digiTICKET has helped the department save time and money. , Statistics also show that electronic ticketing helped reduce the number of vehicle collisions in the community.
“I think it’s a tremendous part of our organization,” said Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter of Sand Springs Police Department. “It has increased our efficiency and the safety of our officers. Our stats show there has been a reduction in the number of vehicle collisions. digiTICKET is a wonderful product and Saltus Technologies is a great partner.”
The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office has provided overtime funding for the Sand Springs Police Department to enforce traffic laws during this period. Carter said, “It has been a wonderful combination to have the support of OHSO to help the success of this project. We are proud of our partnership with OHSO, the digiTicket project as well as our citizens. I think the numbers tell the story”.
After studying traffic statistics for one year, Sand Springs Police report that vehicle collisions dropped 11 percent from May 2009 through May 2010. During the previous year, collisions dropped 5.3 percent from July 2008 through May 2009. Over the two year period, collisions dropped more than 16 percent within the Sand Springs community.
Tulsa-based Saltus Technologies developed digiTICKET which offers an electronic , mobile ticketing solution that automates the ticketing process for law enforcement agencies – saving time and money as well as increasing safety.
Saltus’s electronic solution allows officers to use a rugged, hand-held mobile computer to scan a driver’s license bar code, automatically entering the driver’s data. The reduced time to issue tickets decreases the minutes an officer is standing roadside where they are exposed to unnecessary risks.
”The benefits of electronic ticketing are numerous. Increasing officer safety and productivity along with eliminating human error and redundant manual processes are the obvious things we discuss with our customers,” said Eric Fultz, President and CEO of Saltus. “The data from Sand Springs related to traffic safety is just another way electronic ticketing can benefit our communities. More productive traffic patrols create safer streets – and reducing accidents saves the entire community time, money and lives. Sand Springs has been a great partner and we’re excited about the success they’ve seen with the use of digiTICKET.”
